Year 7 Cheddar Gorge Trip
A big thank you to all the parents who supported the Year 7 field trip to Cheddar. It was great to see so many students having the opportunity to learn outside the classroom. The students had a tour around Gough’s Cave, learning the difference between stalagmites and stalactites and other trivia such as David Laferty who broke the world record staying underground for 130 days, only to come out to find he was beaten the following day by a man from France who spent 131 days underground. The important thing that I hope the Year 7s have taken from the day is how water shapes our landscapes and they will now be in a better position when it comes to understanding coastal processes in Year 8 and rivers and glaciation in year 9.The other aim of the day was for them to have had a good time; I was very impressed with how the groups I took round approached the quiz challenge in the museum and some of their fitness shone through when climbing the 248 odd steps up Jacobs Ladder.
