Pupil Premium

What is Pupil Premium?

Pupil Premium is a sum of money given to schools each year by the Government to improve the attainment of disadvantaged children. This is based on research showing the children from low income families can perform less well at school compared to their peers. As with all research there are many students who do not fit with this generalisation and many Pupil Premium students perform outstandingly at school.

Is my child eligible?

Schools are given a pupil premium for:

  • A child who are currently entitled to free school meals.
  • A child who were previously entitled to free school meals, for six years after they stopped qualifying.
  • A child in care
  • A child previously in care who have been adopted, or who have a special guardianship order, a child arrangements order or a residence order.
  • A child who has a parent who is serving in HM Forces or has retired on a pension from the Ministry of Defence.

How do schools spend the money?

At Crispin School, we use the funding to improve attainment, focus on teaching, targeted academic support and school based non-academic approaches.

My child wants a packed lunch and doesn’t want to eat free school meals, should we apply?

Yes absolutely, there are more benefits to Pupil Premium than the free school meals. For example, we support with the following;

  • All school day visits are paid for.
  • £100 towards uniform in the first year at Crispin. Then £75 per year.
  • Stationery and revision guides given free of charge.
  • Support from our PP learning mentors in class if needed.
  • Musical instrument tuition in Years 7,8,9 if requested and available.
  • Help with specialist equipment at GCSE, for example camera support for GCSE Photography.
  • Priority lending of laptops for extended learning.

Please read the strategy statement below for more details.

Please note, if your child is in receipt of Service Pupil Premium there are new guidelines which mean that the benefits above do not apply, apart from the priority lending of laptops. Instead, students get extra pastoral support from the House Teams and Pupil Premium Learning Mentors.

Pre-loved School Uniform Store

At Crispin we have a Pre-Loved School Uniform Store (some new items too). We understand that growth spurts can mean that suddenly the cost of uniform and shoes can be too expensive, even with the help towards uniform mentioned above. Please contact the school if you would like us to find items of uniform for your child. It is completely free of charge and we just ask that you donate back to us when you no longer need them, providing they are in good condition.

We are extremely grateful to Clarks for a recent donation of School Shoes.

How do we apply?

Visit the application website hereIf you have any questions, please contact the office and ask to speak to Mrs Cornick, the Deputy Head.
